Synopsis

점차 심각해지는 기후위기를 명분으로 탄소배출량이 많은 운송수단에 대한 운행량 감축과 일반국민에 대한 운송수단 이용 허가제가 도입된 미래. 주아는 경민이 다쳤다는 소식을 듣고 그를 만나러 가기 위해 임시 이동 허가를 신청한다.

A future where carbon-emitting transportation is reduced in response to the growing climate crisis, and a transportation permit system is introduced for the general public. JUA applies for a temporary travel permit to go see KYUNGMIN.

Director's Statement

The film <Meet You There> is inspired by real research findings. According to these results, while some carbon reduction has been achieved in various fields, there remains a significant failure to reduce carbon emissions in the foundational sectors of civilization such as logistics and transportation. It is an era where we can go anywhere without physically moving through the internet, virtual reality, and other means. However, paradoxically, the transportation options that actually enable us to move are accelerating the climate crisis, potentially restricting our freedom to move freely on this Earth. Guided by this irony, I imagined the fictional universe of this film.

<거기서 만나>의 키워드는 이동과 청춘입니다. 살아있다면 필연적으로 움직일 수밖에 없고, 특히나 더 자유롭게, 마음껏 헤맬 수 있는 게 청춘이라고 생각합니다. 그런 점에서 "이동의 자유를 누리고 있는 지금이 인류의 청춘이 아닐까, 그렇다면 만약 기후위기를 명분삼아 이동이 제한되는 시대가 온다면 인류의 청춘은 끝나버리는 게 아닐까? 그걸 막기 위해선 우린 무엇을 해야 할까?"와 같은 질문과 걱정을 품고 이 이야기를 쓰게 되었습니다. 따라서 이 영화의 주제는 "우린 계속 움직여야 하고 움직일 수밖에 없다"일 것 같습니다.

The keywords for <Meet You There> are movement and youth. If you are alive, you inevitably have to move, and youth seems to be the time when you can wander more freely and to your heart's content. In that regard, isn't the present the youth of humanity, enjoying freedom of movement? If so, wouldn't humanity's youth come to an end if an era arrives where movement is restricted due to the climate crisis? I crafted this story with questions and concerns such as "What should we do to prevent it?" Therefore, the theme of this story appears to be 'We must keep moving, we have no choice but to move'.
